Under Armour

The history of Under Armour began with the recognition of a need for high-quality sportswear and equipment that could provide comfort and freedom of movement. Under Armour was founded in 1996 by the 23-year-old Kevin Plank, a former captain of the University of Maryland's rugby team. He created his first moisture-wicking synthetic fabric undershirt to address his own discomfort when changing into a sweaty undershirt during rugby matches. Plank perfected his design in his grandmother's basement in Washington, D.C., and distributed some of the prototypes to his former teammates and friends who were starting their careers in the NFL.

Plank named his company Under Armour, using the British spelling, because the British version had a toll-free phone number available, unlike the American "Armor" spelling. He loaded his car's trunk with these innovative garments and started a journey along the U.S. East Coast to promote his products.

In 2003, Under Armour launched its first television commercial with the slogan "Protect this house," aimed at strengthening the sense of teamwork. Currently, one of Under Armour's most successful product collection, is its basketball shoes with the signature of Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors. These shoes are considered highly successful and have even outsold Nike and Adidas basketball shoes in the United States, following the footsteps of Nike's legendary Air Jordan collection.
